  • Weight-optimised trailer tanker with significantly lower tare weight

    March 2017

TINE Mejeriet in Norway has just taken delivery of a special weight-optimised trailer tanker with significantly lower tare weight and much higher steel quality.

The tank shell, end bases and compartment walls are made from 2-mm duplex steel plate. Reinforcement rings and brackets are weight-optimised and made partly from duplex steel plate. The shell plate is made from 1.4-mm fibreglass, which also helps to reduce the weight.

Duplex is a type of stainless steel that is much stronger and more resilient to wear and stress corrosion than the types of stainless steel that trailer tankers are usually made from. This makes the tanks useful for several purposes.

The tanks have a circular structure, rather than oval, for example, to give a stronger and more dimensionally stable structure. The circular shape makes it possible to reduce the steel thickness on tank shell and end bases.
